Work Zone Safety Tips
9/15/2025
As autumn brings changing weather and increased work zone activity, Arkansas drivers should be aware of several traffic reminders to ensure safety.
- Slow Down and Be Patient: Observe all posted signs and reduce your speed well in advance of the work zone to give yourself time to react.
- Avoid Distractions: Put away your phone and focus completely on driving in the work zone.
- Pay Attention: Watch for warning signs, road crews, and flaggers. A flagger's directions have the same legal authority as a sign.
- Maintain Safe Distances: Give vehicles in front of you extra space to avoid rear-end collisions, which are common in work zones.
- Stay Alert for Workers and Equipment: Be aware that workers, equipment and vehicles may enter your lane without warning.
- Know Before You Go: Check traffic and travel apps for work zone information to help plan a safe and timely trip.
Drivers should also watch out for seasonal hazards like wet leaves, fog, and increased wildlife activity.
